Kingdom of Azah’rul

A brutalist, traditionalist draconic kingdom ruled through absolute monarchy and ancient wyrm-blooded lineage.

The Kingdom of Azah’rul is an old, severe, and uncompromising society founded on the virtues of strength, perseverance, duty, and character. It rejects modern philosophies such as democracy, empathy-based governance, or social liberalism. Instead, it holds fast to the ancient draconic order laid down by the Great World Wurm, an immortal figure of myth who remains the symbolic and spiritual ruler of the nation.

The kingdom is bordered by the Crater Lands, a desolate wasteland preventing most forms of military invasion — including the encroaching armies of Grey.

History

Azah’rul’s origins lie in the ancient traditions of the draconic bloodlines, who unified several clans under the Great World Wurm. Over time, the Great Houses emerged, each descended from an adult or ancient dragon who represented one of the kingdom’s foundational values.

Azah’rul’s history is marked by internal strife. At one point, seven dragons ruled the council. Their debates on sovereignty led to a devastating civil war:

Some dragons believed that independent rule would allow each lineage to grow in strength and later reunite into a greater empire.

Others, led by Venoa, argued that the dragons must remain unified, lest their power fracture permanently.

Venoa won the war through brutal means, slaying dissenters and using necromancy to keep their heads as part of her own body. She now represents four council seats alone, creating a political domination unmatched in Azah’rul's history.

The Missing Eighth Dragon

One dragon, Zephorax, vanished before the civil war concluded. Their location and motives remain unknown.

The Child of the Spellplague (Main Plot Hook)

Before the Spellplague ravaged the region, the Great Wurm mated with a noble draconic house, producing an egg. The mother — infected but alive — foresaw the Wurm’s weakening and feared the child would be hunted or exploited.

She smuggled the egg to the Frost Giant clans, who sealed it in ice to preserve it until the time of need. The egg has remained lost ever since, a dormant weapon waiting to be found.

This child is prophesied to shift the outcome of the coming war.

Government Structure

Azah’rul is ruled by a Directing Oligarchy, composed of the Great Houses. While the Great World Wurm is the symbolic monarch, real decision-making power lies with these noble draconic families.
